=How it works=

(Updated 9/1/10) While in-game on a map you can type any of the following (left pane) to place a bet drawn from your ranking point total.  You place a bet on your next enemy mech encounter.  If you destroy the enemy mech within 2 minutes before it destroys you, you double your bet and therefore double your bet's rank points.  However, if the enemy destroys you first, you lose the bet and lose those rank points.  You must have adequate rank points available to make the initial bet.  Tracking bets is not real time so if you have enough Rank Points for the initial bet you can continue to bet using the Rank Points you have listed on the Player Ranking page.  A maximum of 10 bets per day is currently allowed.  The bet only starts AFTER the message appears in chat.  If you destroy or are destroyed before the message appears it may not be counted.  Also, if you make a -bet and there is no resolution before the map is finished you've used one of your 10 bets for the day.  Betting is a quick way to gain ranks, but could also cost you some rank.

=Example=

I see a mech on radar nearby and want to engage it.  I think I have a good shot at destroying it so I place a bet by typing -bet20 and I have 100 rank points.  I engage the enemy mech and destroy it so I win the bet and double my bets rank points - I earn 20 and my total goes to 120.  If I were to be destroyed first (including from another enemy mech I wasn't planning on betting against) then I lose 20 rank points and my total drops to 80.  You cannot bet on other players.  If you suicide it counts as a loss.  Bets can only be made against human players.
